Longitudinal probabilities for handicaps in the neurodegenerative dementias Lead Investigator: Chiadi Onyike Institution : Johns Hopkins University E-Mail : conyike1@johnshopkins.edu Proposal ID : 1293 Proposal Description: The goal of this project is to describe and compare the probabilities of specific handicaps (i.e., functional losses) in patients with neurodegenerative dementias (AD, FTD, DLB and others). Specific aim 1: describe probabilities for transition to specific handicaps (i.e., specific IADL and ADL losses) conditioned on demographic status, CDR category, duration of illness and tempo of progression. Specific aim 2: identify the relative effects of comorbid states (e.g., parkinsonism) on the conditioned probability of specific handicaps Specific aim 3: examine difference between dementia types in the probability of specific handicaps as a function of cognitive status and illness duration. Specific aim 4: translate the probabilities into actuarial tables for clinical reference.
